We value the importance of children having access to and being exposed to books early on. Children who have been read to at home enter school more prepared to learn to read and write. Because of this, we want to share some free early literacy resources with you. Take a look at this video to see all of the benefits of sharing the experience of a book with your child. Little Free Library The concept of the Little Free Library is to make books available to anyone that wants to read them. We have a registered Little Free Library onsite at the center. You and your child are welcome to take a book home to read OR bring books to the Little Free Library to share with someone else. We keep our Little Free Library stocked with preschool books that any child from birth to preschool would enjoy. Please feel free to "take a book” for you and your child or "share a book” with others. Take a look at how the Little Free Library can spark a love for books in your little one. Dolly Parton Imagination Library The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is another free resource available to parents. After registering each child that is under the age of 5 years old, this program will mail an age-appropriate book to all registered children each month for free until the child turns 5 years old. This amazing program is made possible because of Smart Start funding throughout North Carolina including in Pitt County. Please click on this link and register each child that is under the age of 5 years old to take advantage of this wonderful resource. Sheppard Memorial Library Take a visit with your little one to our local library! Sheppard Memorial Library has a fantastic children’s library as well as storytime.
